Overview of basics of technologies (machine controls, sensors, gateways/connectors, user interfaces, etc) that are used in the Industry 4.0 environment and the important characteristics of a Cyber-Physical System. It aims to deliver the learning of the concepts of modularity and flexibility in manufacturing – concepts that are vital to increasing productivity and adaptability of production configurations to meet the changing demands of the market requirements. Practical implementation of a networked factory centrally controlled by the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for production control, data collection, and process analysis will be demonstrated.
